India to Launch Sovereign AI Model Ahead of 2026 AI Impact Summit

 

India is set to unveil its first fully homegrown foundational AI model before the India AI Impact Summit in February 2026, according to MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan. Speaking at India Mobile Congress 2025, Krishnan highlighted rapid progress in AI infrastructure, with 38,000 GPUs already deployed—well above initial targets—and a focus on sector-specific, inclusive AI solutions tailored to India’s unique needs.
